Description Job Description for: CNC Machinist MAINTENANCE MACHINIST Overhaul and remove equipment and machinery. Diagnose equipment malfunctions and repair or fabricate new parts, using NC or mechanical machine tools and metalworking techniques. PROTOTYPE MACHINIST Assist designers and engineers in developing new products and production processes. Work from rough engineering sketches or verbal instructions, use experience and ingenuity to devise practical methods to produce experimental tools and parts and build complete working prototype models for testing. Job Tasks for: CNC Machinist " Set up and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variations. " Handle a metalworking project from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection and testing. " Review blueprints, written specification, or descriptions. " Examine damaged parts. " Select the most appropriate machines, cutting tools, and materials for the job. " Plan the sequence of machining operations. " Make required mathematical calculations. " Lay out and mark metal stock to show where cuts should be made. " Position and fasten the work piece. " Mount the correct type of cutting tool. " Perform required operations of the equipment. Specifications often require tolerance (high precision) of thousands or even ten-thousands of an inch. After completing the machining operations, MACHINISTS may finish, fit and assemble the final part. Classifications For: CNC Machinist GRADE ONE - Grade One machinists have fundamental skills that allow the supervised use and operation of milling machines and lathes and may include the loading and unloading of parts being machined in CNC mills and lathes. GRADE TWO - Grade Two machinists have advanced skills operating mills and lathes and include full ability to independently operate CNC mills and lathes. Grade Two machinists also are capable of setting up jobs and machines and monitor and alter CNC programs via the machine control panel. GRADE THREE - Grade Three machinists possess all advanced skills of a journeyman machinist as stated in the overall job scope of "machinist." These include the ability to program, set up and productively produce parts without supervision. Pay Rates For: CNC Machinist Grade Three - $19.00 to $24.50 per hour depending on experience Grade Two - $17.00 to $18.50 per hour depending on experience Grade One - $14.50 to $16.50 per hour depending on experience
